The ministry efforts of Operación San Andrés (OSA) have focused on the residents of Collique, a shantytown on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. Collique, with a population of approximately 100,000 residents, is in the 4th stage of the Comas district on the north side of Lima. Collique is located on the desert side of the Andes Mountains, and the annual rainfall is extremely low. The terrain is mountainous and living conditions are harsh. Most of Collique’s residents have migrated from other parts of Peru in search of better possibilities for employment and better living conditions. Others came to escape terrorist activities in their previous home regions. The OSA House and Sports Complex are in the Las Lomas neighborhood in the 4th zone of Collique. The community center in nearby Las Casuarinas has been the host location for OSA’s medical and dental campaigns. OSA has a long term cooperative agreement with the community leaders of Las Casuarinsas for year around use of the community center for various ministry activities.
