OSA Missionaries Christopher and Jessica Rose

Christopher and Jessica Rose moved to Collique as full time missionaries in February, 2008. Their appointment to this position is being jointly sponsored by OSA, South Main Baptist Church (Houston), Tallowood Baptist Church (Houston), and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.  Both Chris and Jessie are fluent in Spanish.  Chris lived in Santiago, Chile for two years, and Jessie lived in Ecuador for a study abroad program before they were married.  The Roses grew up in locations near the west coast of the USA.  They were married in Ashland, Oregon in 2003.  The Roses welcomed their son Joshua in July, 2007.

After moving to Houston, Texas, Chris and Jessie taught bilingual classes in an elementary school in the suburban school district of Katy.  They are members of Tallowood Baptist Church where they have grown in their faith and felt the call to full time mission service in Latin America.  Through ministry contacts at Tallowood and South Main, the Roses came to know about the work OSA in late 2006.  They were invited to accompany Luis and Ruth Campos on a trip to Lima and Collique.  The children of Collique won over their hearts.  They felt comfortable being with the people there and being in South American again.  Their hearts were moved by the stories of how lives had been changed there through OSA’s work.

A few months later South Main’s pastor, Steve Wells, and Tallowood’s mission minister Eddy Hallock spoke with the global missions’ coordinator at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF).  It soon became apparent that the appointment of Chris and Jessie as OSA missionaries was well suited for a CBF initiative for “congregational based missions” where missionaries would be financially supported by local congregations and receive training and administrative support from CBF.

A furnished apartment for missionary residence has been added on the third floor of OSA House.  As part of the Living Water-OSA after-school program, the Roses provide educational enrichment in reading, math, and science for approximately 40 children ages 8 to 11.  They also teach adult classes such as the Forming Healthy Families class for mothers.  Chris and Jessie publish monthly newsletters; you may also follow the progress of their mission work by visiting their blog at  http://www.journeywithHim.wordpress.com
