How the “Blessings from God” Soup Kitchen Assists the Rodriguez Family

Soup kitchens provide nutritious meals to thousands of vulnerable families in the poorest areas of Collique, Peru. Among the most-needy people are those who suffer from physical impairments that do now allow them to find a job with living wages to support their families. This is the case of the Rodriguez family, where both parents, Jose Luis and Paty, endure severe eye issues. By God’s grace, the Rodriguez family is connected to a local soup kitchen called “Blessings from God,” supported by Operacion San Andres, who helps relieve their financial struggles, providing free daily meals for the parents and their children.

OSA Recognized for COVID Emergency Relief Efforts

In response to the severe hardship produced by the pandemic and resulting economic crisis, Operación San Andrés (OSA) launched an emergency relief program that has focused its attention on providing emergency food supplies to around 50 soup kitchens that have sprung up across Collique. Story of Rosa Leyva – A College Student Supported by OSA

Lidsay Rosa Leyva Diaz is 21 years old and a participant in OSA’s college support program that provides young folks from low income families the opportunity for a college education. Rosa is the second of four siblings who lives, with her parents, in the fourth zone of Collique. She shares her memories of a happy childhood as part of a loving and supportive family.

Let's Meet Sergio

As the global pandemic continues its impact in Peru, Operación San Andrés (OSA) and Luz de Esperanza (Light of Hope) Church continue providing multiple programs of support to dozens of families in Collique. For example, every weekend 65 children come to the church building to receive educational materials to help them improve their academic performance in school.

It’s Been Quite a Year

Exactly one year ago the first two-week COVID lockdown began in Peru. I still remember thinking; ‘Two weeks? We can handle that’. Two weeks became two months and two months became two years; we are, in any case, into the second year.
