Dream Builder Course at OSA

During the second quarter of 2017, OSA sponsored an adult education program called “Dream Builder” which consists of 12 on-line modules designed to teach basic business skills to women.  The course, taught at OSA-house was attended by 16 women living in the 4th and 5th zones of Collique.  The course was presented as an extension to OSA’s “Talita Cumi” program that promotes awareness and prevention of domestic violence.

The explanation of how learning basic business skills fits into the domestic violence education is interesting.  It is a well know fact that people with low self-esteem are more likely to be victims of gender violence or sexual abuse.  Having basic business skills improves women’s self-esteem and, when put into action, makes them more financially independent from dominating domestic partners.

Course materials were accessed via internet, and for 90% of the women in the class, this was their first experience using computers.   The 16 women graduated from the course and were presented certificates of completion during the 4th quarter of 2017.  Several of the women are preparing business plans to utilize the business skills learned in the Dream Builder Program.
